Jake is dedicated to providing exceptional client service on routine and complex commercial real estate transactions. He combines his technical expertise with a pragmatic, solutions-focused approach, and offers thoughtful advice that is sensitive to the specific needs of his clients and the matter at hand. 

Jake is a member of the firm’s Real Estate Group. His practice focuses on the acquisition and disposition of commercial real estate involving a number of asset classes and transaction structures, including portfolio and share transactions. He also advises clients on limited partnerships and co-ownership arrangements, financings and land transfer tax matters.

Jake has extensive experience acting on behalf of several of Canada’s leading real estate investment firms, developers and operators.

Representative Matters

Represented Allied Properties Real Estate Investment Trust, a leading owner-operator of distinctive urban workspace in Canada’s major cities, in the acquisition from Westbank of a 90% ownership interest in 400 West Georgia Street in Vancouver, and an additional 45% ownership interest in 19 Duncan Street in Toronto (increasing Allied’s ownership interest to 95%). The transaction was based on an aggregate property value of $920.7 million.

Represented Melchior Management 777 Corporation, a property management service company, with the formation of M Commercial REIT, a new private commercial real estate investment trust, and the related vend-in of a portfolio of commercial properties located in Barrie, Ontario.

Advised a private family-owned company on the completion of the sale of an industrial building located in Mississauga for a purchase price of approximately $9 million. The transaction included the negotiation of an early-termination arrangement with an existing tenant.

Represented Allied Properties Real Estate Investment Trust, a leading operator of distinctive urban workspaces in Canada’s major cities, in the sale of its network-dense urban datacentre portfolio to Japanese telecommunications provider KDDI Corporation for $1.35 billion.

Represented the purchaser of a $130 million, 5.5 acre development site in Mimico.

Represented the purchaser of a $270 million, 2,800,000 square foot portfolio of industrial properties in Atlantic Canada.

Represented a co-owner of a leasehold interest in a mixed-use, 7 acre development site in Scarborough.

Represented the purchaser of an $80 million, 400,000 square foot portfolio of industrial properties in Quebec.

Represented the purchaser of a $60 million, 290,000 square foot portfolio of industrial properties in Cambridge.

Represented a real estate investment firm in connection with the formation of an investment fund and the related vend-in of a portfolio of properties and land transfer tax filings. 

Represented the purchaser of a 100,000 square foot office building in Toronto.

Represented the purchaser of a 250,000 square foot industrial building in Oakville.

Represented the purchaser of two industrial buildings in Whitby totalling 260,000 square feet.

Represented the purchaser of a 90-property portfolio of banking centre locations across Canada as part of a sale/leaseback transaction and related acquisition financing.

Represented the purchaser of a $1.2 billion portfolio of commercial mortgage loans.
