Ethan is passionate about building close relationships with his clients while assisting them on complex real estate transactions. Clients appreciate his practical advice, logical approach and his attention to detail.

Ethan is a member of the firm’s Real Estate Group. His practice focuses on the acquisition and disposition of various types of properties throughout Ontario. He also has experience advising on joint ventures and limited partnerships. While Ethan acts primarily for developers and REITs, he also works with individuals and businesses looking to purchase or sell commercial, industrial, mixed-use and multi-family properties. In addition, Ethan acts for both borrowers and lenders on commercial financing matters.

Representative Matters

Advised First Capital REIT on the sale of 1629-1633 The Queensway in Etobicoke, Ontario for the purchase price of $34 million.

Advised TAS Impact, an impact-driven real estate developer, on its acquisition of an approximately 290,000 square foot industrial facility located at 1500 Birchmount Road in Scarborough, Ontario. 

Represented Allied Properties Real Estate Investment Trust (TSX:AP.UN) in its $250 million private placement of 5.534% series J senior unsecured debentures.

Advised First Capital REIT on the sale of its 50% interest in its Royal Orchard development site in Thornhill, Ontario, which is slated for multiple mixed-use towers and approximately 1.6 million square feet of density.

Advised First Capital REIT on the sale of the Yonge-Davis Centre located in Newmarket, Ontario.

Advised the owner/vendor on the sale of 4854 Bathurst Street, a 71-suite apartment building in Toronto.

Advised First Capital REIT in its disposition of 5051 Yonge Street, Toronto for a sale price of $50 million.

Represented Allied Properties Real Estate Investment Trust, a leading operator of distinctive urban workspace in Canada’s major cities, in the sale of its network-dense urban datacentre portfolio to Japanese telecommunications provider KDDI Corporation for $1.35 billion.

Advised NYX Capital Corp. in its acquisition of a 22-acre development site near Toronto Pearson International Airport for a purchase price of $40.7 million. 

Advised the Ontario Ministry of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade on all aspects of its winning bid for Volkswagen’s first overseas gigafactory, a several-billion-dollar investment that is one of the largest in Canadian history. 

Represented Forest Gate Advisors Inc., a real estate private equity, private debt and advisory investment firm, in the acquisition of 9960 Bayview Avenue, a Richmond Hill, Ontario based property comprising 56 apartment units.

Represented Forest Gate Advisors Inc., a real estate private equity, private debt and advisory investment firm, in the acquisition of 150 Colborne Avenue, a Richmond Hill, Ontario based property comprising 52 apartment units.

Represented Forest Gate Advisors Inc., a real estate private equity, private debt and advisory investment firm, in the acquisition of 72 First Street, an Orangeville, Ontario based property comprising 33 apartment units.

Represented Forest Gate Advisors Inc., a real estate private equity, private debt and advisory investment firm, in the acquisition of 135 Atherley Road, an Orillia, Ontario based property comprising 43 apartment units.

Represented Forest Gate Advisors Inc., a real estate private equity, private debt and advisory investment firm, in the acquisition of 290-292 The Kingsway, a Toronto based property comprising 43 apartment units.

Represented Forest Gate Advisors Inc., a real estate private equity, private debt and advisory investment firm, in the acquisition of 1698 Victoria Park Avenue, a Toronto based property comprising 52 apartment units.

Represented First Capital REIT in its acquisition of 272 Lawrence Avenue West in Toronto, Ontario. 

Advised First Capital REIT in its acquisition, alongside Crestpoint Real Estate Investments Ltd., of Amberlea Shopping Centre, a 100,174 sq. ft. grocery and pharmacy anchored shopping centre in Pickering, Ontario for a purchase price of $45 million.

Advised First Capital REIT in its acquisition of an assembly of properties located at the major intersection of Bloor and Spadina and in connection with the structuring of a strategic partnership between First Capital and its partner.

Advised First Capital REIT in its exercise of an option to purchase its previous partner’s 50% interest in a development site for $56 million and the subsequent conveyance of a 50% interest in the Property to Pemberton Group for $156 million as well as is in connection with the structuring of the strategic partnership between First Capital and Pemberton to develop the 28-acre site, which will be transformed into a  master-planned, mixed-use transit-oriented neighbourhood. 

Represented Medi Power Canada Inc. in its sale of 1010 Talbot St., St. Thomas to Skyline Retail Real Estate Holdings Inc. for a purchase price of $20.85 million.

Represented Allied Properties Real Estate Investment Trust, a leading operator of distinctive urban workspace in Canada’s major cities and network-dense urban data centres in Toronto, in its acquisition of six urban office properties from Choice Properties Real Estate Investment Trust for $794 million.

Advised First Capital REIT in its co-venture acquisition of 102 Atlantic Avenue.

Represented Forest Gate Advisors Inc., a real estate private equity, private debt and advisory investment firm, in the acquisition of 189 Cedarvale Avenue and 4875 Dundas Street West, two Toronto-based properties collectively comprising 134 apartment units.

Represented Allied Properties Real Estate Investment Trust, a leading owner, manager and developer of distinctive urban workspace in Canada’s major cities and network-dense urban data centres in Toronto, in its completion of a $500 million debt offering of 3.095% series I senior unsecured debentures. The Series I Debentures are Allied’s second Green Bond issuance under its previously announced Green Financing Framework.
