On December 12, 2017, Bill 139 received Royal Assent and came into force as the Building Better Communities and Conserving Watersheds Act, 2017. The new Act makes a number of changes to the process of seeking and appealing land use planning approvals throughout Ontario, including replacing the Ontario Municipal Board with the Local Planning Appeals Tribunal.
In this webinar, municipal lawyers Leo Longo and Patrick Harrington provide a practical overview of the legislative amendment, and project what lies ahead for both landowners and municipal authorities under Ontario’s new planning approvals system.
Topics include:
- How will the new Local Planning Appeal Tribunal (“LPAT”) handle land use planning and development application appeals?
- What will be appealable? What will no longer be appealable?
- How will the proposed transition rules affect current applications?
