Jessica Millar

Associate Admitted to the Ontario Bar: 2016

Jessica is a member of the firm’s Litigation & Dispute Resolution Group. Her broad commercial litigation practice includes matters related to copyright, estates, construction and contractual disputes. She also has experience in both plaintiff- and defendant-side class action litigation and is part of the team that commenced the first “reverse” copyright class action in Canadian history, still ongoing, in which she acts on behalf of several film studios. In her construction litigation practice, Jessica defends architects in professional negligence claims and advises clients on issues arising under the Construction Lien Act. She also has experience in competition law investigations and defence.

Prior to her legal career, Jessica worked at a leading public policy think tank. 

Representative Matters

Represented the Friends of the Simon Wiesenthal Centre in a matter in which they, along with others, resisted Your Ward News’ attempt to reinstate its right to use Canada Post to deliver its anti-Semitic/misogynist/homophobic newspaper.

Acting for multiple movie production companies in bringing a proposed reverse class action before the Federal Court of Canada for illegal downloading of copyright-protected movies.

Defending a financial institution in class action proceedings in multiple jurisdictions over merchant interchange fees paid to credit card companies and credit card-issuing banks.

Advising and acting for developers and professional architects in respect of construction litigation, including matters arising under the Construction Lien Act.

Advising and acting for both individual and corporate clients in respect of will challenges and estate litigation.
