Durham Region Reaches $6.2 Million Settlement

The Region of Durham, represented by Aird & Berlis litigation lawyers Tim Hill and Courtney Raphael, successfully reached a settlement with the City of Oshawa regarding a 12-year legal battle arising from the amalgamation of Durham Region Transit services in 2006. As a result of the settlement, the Region will receive a total of $6.2 million payable over a ten-year period.

The litigation between the Region of Durham and the City of Oshawa involved a dispute about the financial responsibility for ‘unfunded liabilities for Employee Future benefits,’ which include health care, sick leave and WSIB benefits.
