Ryan brings a unique blend of strategic insight and analytical expertise to his role as an intellectual property advocate. His inquisitive nature and passion for problem-solving make him a trusted advisor and his commitment to client service leads him to provide strategies tailored to each client’s needs. Ryan's background in chemical and bio-chemical engineering enables him to quickly grasp complex technical concepts and navigate diverse industries and technologies with ease.
Ryan is a member of the firm's Intellectual Property and Litigation & Dispute Resolution Groups. He handles enforcement and infringement cases and has extensive experience in patent, trademark and design, copyright and trade secret matters. Ryan represents a diverse range of clients, including companies in the petrochemical, consumer goods, manufacturing and agricultural science industries.
Ryan is also involved in anti-counterfeiting efforts, brand enforcement initiatives and Trademarks Opposition Board proceedings. He assists clients in developing internal monitoring protocols and strategies for trademark protection.
Ryan appears regularly in courts across Canada, including the Ontario courts, the Federal Court and the Federal Court of Appeal. His expertise extends to mediation and arbitration, reflecting his commitment to resolving disputes efficiently and effectively.

Represented Baker Hughes in a patent infringement action concerning a pipeline drag reducing agent (flow improver).
Represented Quantum Safe Data Systems Inc. and related defendants in the dismissal of allegations of trade secret misappropriation concerning the design of a "quantum secured" fintech platform.
Represented consortiums of Canada's largest media companies and Hollywood movie studios in various copyright enforcement efforts—including execution of Anton Piller Orders, obtaining default judgment and securing contempt penalties—against those providing access to and/or operating illicit IPTV services.
Represented the Dow Chemical Company in a patent infringement action (and subsequent appeals) pertaining to its novel ELITE™ film grade polyethylene compositions—successfully obtaining the largest reported patent infringement award in Canada.
Represented the Estate of Vivian Maier in a copyright infringement action related to the unauthorized exhibition and sale of the renowned photographer's images.
Represented Siemens Canada Ltd. in responding to a letters rogatory application for third party discovery of its source code concerning wireless network equipment at issue in proceedings before the U.S. International Trade Commission.
Represented Petronas Canada against allegations of patent infringement related to its use of de-sanding equipment as part of its Canadian natural gas operations.
Represented the supplier of drilling mud compositions designed for use in the oil sand deposits in Western Canada in a patent infringement action.
Represented David Brown Santasalo in its intellectual property negotiations with Canada concerning the procurement contract for the Navy's Canadian Surface Combatant (River-class Destroyer) fleet.
Represented Arctic Cat Inc. (a brand of Textron Specialized Vehicles) in a multi-action infringement dispute concerning patents related to rider position, sub-frame assembly construction and engine (ignition timing) control system, for snowmobiles.
Represented Uber Technologies Inc. in an appeal of a UDRP (domain name dispute) order.
Counsel to Crystal Green Energy Corporation concerning a dispute regarding patent ownership and misappropriation of confidential information concerning solar cell technology.
Represented Aware Beverages Inc. in opposition proceedings against its SoCIAL LITE trademark application.
Counsel to several agriculture equipment manufacturers related to patent and trademark enforcement efforts.
Represented JemPak in summary judgment proceedings brought in defence of alleged patent infringement concerning the manufacture and sale of private label dishwasher detergent pods.
Represented SEFAC S.A. in a third party patent infringement claim brought by a Canadian re-seller of its wireless industrial mobile column lifts.
Represented FGF Brands in an infringement action related to its patented tandoor style commercial oven.
Represented Valence Technology Inc. in an infringement action concerning its patent for the production of cathode materials for lithium-ion batteries.
Retained as a consulting expert on Canadian patent law by the Trade Law Bureau, Government of Canada.
