Reminder – New Statutory Holiday in British Columbia – First Observance September 30, 2023

September 01, 2023

By: Fiona Brown

In March of 2023, the British Columbia provincial government established the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation as a statutory holiday under British Columbia employment standards legislation. Provincially regulated employees in British Columbia are now entitled to observe September 30 of each year as a paid public holiday.

The first time that this holiday will be observed in British Columbia is September 30, 2023, which is fast approaching. Our clients are encouraged to update their internal records and handbooks accordingly. Specifically, handbooks should be updated to include a reference to this new public holiday. We would be pleased to assist.
