Ontario is running out of time to strengthen rules aimed at addressing negligent and misbehaving municipal politicians ahead of the next election in October 2026.

In a recent CBC News article, partner John Mascarin expressed concerns about the province’s push to pass Bill 9, the Municipal Accountability Act, cautioning that the legislation may not work as intended and advocating for judicial oversight instead of a unanimous council vote to ensure serious misconduct can be effectively addressed.
