Heather is a trusted advocate who is deeply committed to
helping Indigenous communities find practical solutions that protect their
rights and advance their interests and jurisdiction. As an Indigenous lawyer
with extensive experience guiding clients through Indigenous-related issues in major natural
resource and infrastructure projects, she brings a unique and valuable perspective
to her practice. Heather provides impactful legal counsel by drawing on both
her personal experience and professional background, and is driven by a strong
commitment to building strong, collaborative relationships that support
meaningful, long-term change.
Heather is a member of the firm's Indigenous Practice Group.
She is also a member of the firm's Environmental and Energy Groups. Heather
works closely with Indigenous communities and project proponents across Canada,
providing legal support on a wide range of matters involving Indigenous rights,
governance and natural resource development. She regularly advises Indigenous
governments on the development of their laws, including those created pursuant
to An Act Respecting First Nations, Inuit and Métis Children, Youth and
Families (C-92). Heather also supports clients through project-related
negotiations such as Impact Benefit Agreements (IBAs) and Indigenous equity ownership
of major projects.
Heather's practice also encompasses environmental approvals,
permitting and regulatory compliance, with a focus on the energy, mining and
natural resource sectors. She advises on Indigenous-related legal obligations,
including consultation and accommodation, free, prior and informed consent
(FPIC), on-reserve development, procurement and relationship planning.
Heather is Cree from the Michel First Nation.
