Darren Haines

Darren is committed to supporting Indigenous clients and communities through clear, outcome-driven advice on complex legal, commercial and governance matters. He is drawn to work that addresses significant challenges and opportunities facing Indigenous governments and organizations, with a focus on advancing self-determination and long-term economic development. Darren takes a pragmatic, solutions-oriented approach, tailoring his advice to reflect each client’s unique needs, governance structures, priorities and circumstances.

Darren is a member of the firm’s Indigenous Practice Group, as well as its Real Estate and Projects & Infrastructure Groups. He works closely with First Nation and Métis governments, Indigenous institutions and Indigenous-owned businesses at the intersection of Aboriginal and Indigenous law. He advises on a wide range of initiatives, including those in the commercial real estate, energy and natural resource sectors. Darren’s practice also incudes advising on corporate structuring, commercial transactions, institutional and corporate governance, and the implementation of complex projects and transactions. He regularly supports clients in strengthening institutional capacity and advancing government-to-government relationships with the Crown, including modern treaty implementation. Darren’s approach is client-centric, informed by his extensive experience helping Indigenous clients navigate provincial and federal laws and regulatory regimes.

Darren is Métis with family belonging to the Paddle Prairie Métis Settlement in Treaty 8 territory.
