Life Sciences Incubator (JLABS) Launching in Ontario
Last week, the Ontario Government announced that Ontario has been selected to host Johnson & Johnson Innovation's first JLABs incubator outside the United States. It will be called JLABS @ Toronto.
JLABS Toronto will partner with the University of Toronto, MaRs Innovation, MaRs Discovery District and the Province of Ontario to facilitate new life science startups.
JLABS @ Toronto will accommodate up to 50 startups dedicated to biomedical sciences. The focus is to help young researchers and entrepreneurs who are working on significant discoveries benefit from access to senior researchers at UofT and MaRs, industry consultants and capital funding partners, and from access to state-of-the-art lab space.
JLABS currently has facilities in Boston, Houston, San Diego, San Francisco and South San Francisco. It operates according to an open innovation model, meaning that ventures with proven scientific achievement and medical potential will be invited to apply for space and services. Selected startups remain independent with JLABS, as the goal is to provide an atmosphere where biomedical startups can grow.
The application page can be found here.
The Incubator is scheduled to open in spring 2016.
