Global Skills Strategy Launches in June

Posted in News

StartupSource has covered the Government of Canada's Global Skills Strategy in this space. The Global Skills Strategy is an initiative designed to help high-growth Canadian companies attract specialized global talent by providing a faster and more predictable streamlined service.

The Government has now announced in a press release that the Global Skills Strategy will launch on June 12, 2017.

Under the initiative, a Global Talent List of eligible high-demand occupations is being developed in consultation with labour market experts and key stakeholders. Eligible workers in these categories, and the startups and growth companies that tend to employ them, will benefit from a two-week standard for processing work permit applications, a dedicated client team for companies looking to invest in Canadian job creation, and the removal of the work permit requirement for short-term, highly-skilled work (i.e. 30 days or less in a 30-day period).

In our view, it's an exciting opportunity for Canada to improve its brand positioning in the marketplace for global talent, and also a practical measure to ensure that the country's entrepreneurs can gain access to the best possible workers.
