Steeper Fines and New Reporting Obligations for Employers

Archive Now Available!

Cynthia R. C. Sefton, David S. Reiter and Lorenzo Lisi

The Stronger, Fairer Ontario Act (Budget Measures), 2017 (Bill 177) has brought about significant changes to the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), and employers need to understand how the amendments affect them.

Join our panel of occupational health and safety law experts as they discuss the key changes and the related implications for workplaces across the province.

Topics include:

  • Changes to maximum fine amounts and limitation periods
  • What to expect under the new OHSA regulations: A look at other regulatory cases with sizeable (now comparable) limits on fines
  • How a longer limitation period for laying charges under the OHSA will impact prosecutions and the way in which companies conduct internal investigations, retain records and insure risks
  • Changes to the duties associated with reporting a workplace incident and the impact on internal policies and maintenance standards
