Paige Backman, a partner with the firm's Corporate/Commercial Group and Co-Chair of the Sports & Media Team, has been invited to the Vatican to participate in the first global conference on "Sport at the Service of Humanity." Paige is a former member of Canada's national water polo team, is an advisor to international sports organizations, has sat on many boards of directors for sports organizations and is the recipient of the 2015 President's Honour Role Award of Aquatics Canada Aquatiques. This event is a gathering of thought leaders and influencers from the world of business, sport and religion, including Ban Ki Moon, Secretary General of the United Nations, and Thomas Bach, President of the International Olympic Committee. Jointly, they will discuss how business, sport and faith can work together to promote positive values, inspire youth and better serve humanity.

Paige and 150 other delegates from countries across the world will gather at the Vatican from October 5 to 7. "I am very honoured to have been invited to participate in this conference which brings together the power of business, faith and sports," said Paige Backman. "As a former elite-level athlete and an advisor for national and international professional and amateur sports organizations, I believe in the power of sport and the strength of athletes to teach respect and compassion, and to be instrumental in influencing positive changes that transcend borders, religions and political views. I am very much looking forward to being part of this delegation and to helping make a difference in the lives of those around us."
