Toronto is Ready to Become the Next Great Producer of Tech Startups

Posted in Uncategorized

Move over Silicon Valley and Bay Area, Toronto is a technology hub on the rise! In a recent Tech Crunch article, Josh Guttman, partner at SBNY, describes his  positive experience living and investing in early stage  technology-driven companies in Toronto and the GTA.

He compares Toronto to New York City in the early 2000s, "simmering with entrepreneurial talent, opportunity and a strong foundation to support it." Guttman believes that, "Toronto is poised to contend as one of the biggest North American hubs for technology startup activity over the next 5-10 years."

There are a lot of reasons to support his argument. Toronto is the fourth-largest city in North America, home to two world-class technology and engineering universities and produces the highest number of engineering-focused university graduates each year. Toronto has a strong startup foundation and supportive government bodies that provide grants, match contributions and offer financial assistance programs. The city itself has a vibrant and growing centre, friendly people and efficient transportation.

Guttman states that he plans to continue spending time in Toronto looking for his next investment.
