Fiona is known for her commitment to outstanding client service. Whether assisting companies with their expansion into Canada, working with a team to manage complex transactions or acting as point person for advice on everyday matters, she is a hands-on client relationship partner. Fiona takes great care to understand her clients’ business objectives and to help her clients leverage the firm’s strengths across all practice areas. She leads multi-disciplinary teams of lawyers to provide clients with comprehensive service across all areas of business law. Clients appreciate her hands-on approach to managing the relationship and her guidance on complex matters. Fiona never loses sight of the human element in the legal issues facing her clients, and her responsiveness, focus on clear communication and project management skills show that she is personally invested in their success.

Fiona’s background in labour and employment law allows her to personally advise clients with respect to compliance with employment standards, human rights, pay equity, occupational health and safety requirements and minimizing liabilities with respect to terminations. Her commercial employment law practice involves assisting the firm’s corporate clients with all labour and employment aspects of corporate transactions, restructurings and mergers and acquisitions, including employment-related diligence, successor employer issues and preparing related employment and consulting agreements. In addition, Fiona represents clients in litigation arising out of the employment relationship, including wrongful and constructive dismissal litigation and matters before the Ontario Human Rights Tribunal and the Ontario Labour Relations Board.

Fiona’s clients trust her to manage their most important transactional, regulatory and operational legal issues. Fiona represents clients in the public, private, non-profit and charitable sectors across a range of industries and contexts, including technology, manufacturing, automotive, cannabis, health and wellness, insurance, transportation, retail and marketing, among others.

She is a practical lawyer who enjoys developing workable business solutions, and takes a proactive and comprehensive approach to helping clients succeed in a new market. Fiona works closely with lawyers and patent agents in other practice areas, including technology, litigation, intellectual property, regulatory law, banking, real estate and tax, to provide her clients with a full range of legal services to advance their business interests.

Advising BZAM, a leading Canadian cannabis producer, in the acquisition of Final Bell Canada, an end-to-end supply chain system for cannabis brands, from Final Bell Holdings International.

Advising ProsFit, an EU-based company that has built an innovative digital platform for industrialized design, manufacture and alignment of medically regulated custom-made prosthetic sockets and connectors, all based on the scan of the limb. Outperforming industry benchmarks by 80%, it allows prosthetics provision and rehabilitation services anywhere, including at home. ProsFit’s global network of approved manufacturers enables improved productivity, resource flexibility and scalability for the medical manufacturing industry, allowing for the decentralization of the prosthetic fitting process.

Advising Xtrava Health, a Silicon Valley company on a mission to bridge the gap between diagnostics and everyday users, on its expansion into Canada. Founded in 2014, the company develops, manufactures and commercializes easy-to-use, accurate and affordable diagnostic products for both health professionals and users at home. Xtrava Health is currently on the forefront of the battle against the COVID-19 pandemic.

Advising Luxury Presence, a Santa Monica-based real estate marketing and design Company, on its expansion into Canada. Used by more than 6,000 agents and teams, Luxury Presence helps professionals in the real estate industry build their brand and grow their online presence with services like social media management, content marketing, website design and SEO services.

Advising Vitel Global, an American cloud-based business phone system provider, on its expansion into Canada. The company’s Cloud PBX system comes with a variety of cost-effective phone features that help maintain a well-organized communication system in a business environment.

Advised Origin, an outdoor-focused, digitally driven creative, content and branding agency, in connection with its acquisition by MMGY Global, a leading travel and hospitality marketing firm.

Advising FAIRTIQ, a Switzerland-based company that makes travelling by public transportation easy and cost-effective, on its expansion into Canada. FAIRTIQ’s ticketing mobile app can be used across the entire public transportation network in Switzerland and Liechtenstein, parts of Germany and Austria and soon in France and Belgium. Over 22 million trips have been taken using the award-winning FAIRTIQ app.

Advising FocusKPI, a leading analytics company based in Santa Clara with an office in Massachusetts, on its expansion into Canada. The data science and cloud technology firm services clients, including Fortune 500 companies, in the IT industry. FocusKPI supports users in harnessing data to make decisions.

Advising Sentry on its expansion to the Canadian marketplace. Sentry is an error and performance monitoring software that helps developers save time and channel their energy into fuelling innovation.

Advising Plan Shoot Deliver, a cloud-based video production company based in Prague, on its expansion into Canada. The company uses cutting-edge broadcast and virtual production technology to create unique content, backed by over two decades of experience using virtual sets and augmented reality.

Represented Baylin Technologies Inc. (TSX:BYL), a diversified leading global wireless technology management company, in the completion of a $40.25 million bought deal public offering of subscription receipts and 6.5% extendible convertible unsecured debentures and the related acquisition of Alga Microwave Inc.

Acted on behalf of Shahid Khan in his purchase of the Four Seasons Hotel in Toronto. The purchase represents the largest single-asset price-per-room hotel transaction in Canadian history. Through various family holdings, Mr Khan took immediate ownership of the hotel, which will continue to be managed by Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts.

Represented Baird Capital Partners, a private equity firm based in Chicago, in the acquisition of Litecorr Global Inc., a leading edge developer/manufacturer of LED lighting products, for use in a variety of applications across a range of industries.

Advising MedTrix Healthcare Communications, a technology company that helps pharmaceutical companies actively engage with health-care professionals, on its expansion into Canada.
