Minister of Energy introduces Ontario Rebate for Electricity Consumers Act, 2016

By Zoë Thoms

Ontario is moving forward with implementing initiatives announced in the recent speech from the throne. Last week, Energy Minister Glenn Thibeault introduced Bill 13 - Ontario Rebate for Electricity Consumers Act, 2016. Bill 13 provides the legal framework for the rebate of the provincial portion of HST, 8 percent, to residential and commercial customers directly on their electricity bills. The government anticipates about five million customers will receive the rebate benefit. If passed, Bill 13 would take effect January 1, 2017. The Bill passed second reading and is headed to committee.
